Halloween Dance-a-Thon, Costumes, Haunted House Donations!

On Monday, students are allow to wear costumes for the Dance-a-Thon (as long as they do not bring toy weapons or masks). There will also be an optional Haunted House being set up in Room 208 by the WE Club. Admission to the Haunted house costs $2, OR a non-perishable food donation.  All proceeds will be donated to the local Bradford Food Bank.

For students who are not attending the dance, there will be an alternate activity provided for them.

Minute Math Practice!

Each Monday or Tuesday we write a “minute math” quiz involving multiplication. Currently the focus is on multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers. Unfortunately, less than half of the students are passing these quizzes. After polling the class, it appears that scores are not improving due to a lack of studying or preparation at home (which many have been advised to do so that they can improve their scores). Often parents ask, “What can my child practice at home?”… basic multiplication skills will help to improve overall competency in mathematics because they will be able to spend more time focusing on how to solve a problem rather than basic computations.

Vaccination Forms

Vaccination forms came home yesterday (October 17). I have added these dates to the calendar page.

Please return forms as soon as possible (with either a yes or no response), as they need to be back prior to the first vaccine date.

The vaccine dates are:

November 17 – Hepatitis B Dose #1, HPV Dose #1
February 21 – Meningitis
May 5 – Hepatitis B Dose #2, HPV Dose #2

All necessary information is on the green forms that came home. Please read through them carefully.

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

Today I have sent home all student EQAO results from last year.  The only students who did not receive them were students who were absent today, or were not at Fieldcrest to write EQAO.

I hope everyone has a great long weekend with family and friends!

See you all on Tuesday!

New Links and Pages!

Hi everyone!

On the left-hand side of this page, there is a list of different helpful sites.  I will do my best to keep it up-to-date and organized. Students, there is now a link to log-in to access your email account. Please remember this email account is owned by the school board, and you are expected to use it responsibly, as they can be monitored. Hover over the email link to find the instructions for logging in.

Most of links to the left are for student use, however, there are a few links and websites that parents/guardians will be interested in.

The first of these is the “Remind App” (if you don’t have it already), which will provide you with text messages of current events, upcoming due dates, homework, and general notifications. Ask your child for the access code, or send me a note/email to request it.

The next link that parents may be interested in, is the Class Dojo app. I have used this in the past to help monitor/communicate class behaviours (positive and negative) with both students and parents/guardians. The access code/password for both students and parents will be coming home on Monday.  Please sign and return this form (although keep the access code).

Finally, if your child requires help with their math homework, there is a link to register them for TVO online homework help. This project is supported and funded by the government of Ontario.

NOTE: All of the mentioned apps or websites are free. If any site should EVER ask you for money, do NOT do so. For example, Prodigy is a FREE game, however, some people choose to pay for an upgraded account. This upgraded account is NOT necessary, unless you choose to do so. The free account will be enough.

If you have any questions please message me!  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
